One day I gave up and told my parent, I said to my parent let me continue our small trading because I didn’t have any motivation anymore to find the job and my father told me ” If you want to become a trader in the traditional market, what about your future? how will you pay for medical payment if you will get sick? who will pay our debts? working is not about to get salary only but you will get many benefits as well, go catch up your dream and leave us here, our prayer with you always”

I have been working in Oil, Gas, Mining and Healthcare & Safety (HSE) Industries for more than 25 years. I have been active in the organization since I was nine years old in Rengasdengklok, Karawang, West Java, Indonesia.

My parents brought me to Rengasdengklok, Karawang, to migrate. We shared a rented room with my siblings. My father is a street vendor and sold his goods at the Rengasdengklok’s market.

I grew up in a poor family, we have no connection and no network. From elementary school through college, I had to help my parents sell at the market. From a young age, I helped my parents with their trading. After school, I would help them prepare their wares. After praying Maghrib and studying the Quran, I have to study to use an oil lamp every day.

My dream was to become an IT engineer or an industrial machine manufacturer because there are many factories in Karawang, and I wanted to work there to get a good salary income to provide for my parents. However, I failed the university entrance exam, and I ended up returning to trading.

Alhamdulillah, after a long and difficult journey, and after failing to find work in Kuwait due to lack of funds, I was able to work in Papua and the Middle Eastern country of Qatar. I am the former Chairman of the Indonesian Business Association in Qatar and am currently as an Advisor and Principal Global Kerja Program.

Three years ago, my fellow migrant workers and I founded the Global Kerja Community, with the primary program being Global Work abroad and a vision of supporting Indonesians’ ability to find work abroad, particularly in the Middle East. Together with our colleagues, we established PT. Global Kerja Indonesia www.globalkerja.com, with the primary program of providing information on global job careers and education and skills related to employment in the oil, gas, petrochemical, and healthcare industries.

As the Principal of the Global Kerja program, on behalf of the team, we extend our sincere gratitude to the speakers, agencies, institutions, organizations, and strategic corporate partners for their excellent synergy, enabling more job seekers to find work in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar.
